As a result of being diagnosed with asthma in 2000, I needed to find another form of fitness training to replace volleyball, softball, and aerobics exercise. In the summer of 2006 a flyer came in the mail from Henry Ford Community College's Center for Lifelong Learning. A tai chi class was being offered. As fate would have it the class was Wu style Tai Chi Chuan and Sifu Genie Parker was the instructor. My love for the art and desire to learn as much as I could began. As a side benefit, my asthma improved significantly. In 2009, I was accepted as a disciple of Sifu Genie Parker in a ceremony conducted by Grand Master Eddie Wu Kwong Yu at the Ann Arbor Tai Chi Academy. Currently, I am teaching one class at HFCC and assisting in two others in the Metro Detroit area. While most of my time is spent teaching the 54 round form, I continue to train the 108 standard, the 108 round form, and the broadsword and sword forms.
