Kieran Gibb

I was first introduced to the benefits of Tai Chi and Chi Kung in April 2014 by Larry Butler at the Buddhist retreat centre Dhanakosa in the Trossachs, Scotland. Though Larry, trained in Yang-style Tai Chi, I learned a variety of Chi Kung forms for physical and mental well-being.

Pursuing this interest further on my return to London, I briefly studied Elemental Chi Kung with Geoff Hogan.

In September 2014 I found Wu's Tai Chi Chuan Academy (UK) in Archway and was impressed by the agility, inclusiveness, humility and knowledge demonstrated by the instructors. In November 2015 I formally undertook instructor training under Sifu Don Spargo and as part of the course began teaching training under his supervision by assisting in the beginners classes, teaching the Standard 108 Form.

Training in Wu-style Tai Chi has been instrumental in improving my physical fitness and posture, confidence and sense of awareness. Training with Sifu Don has provided a firm grounding in the medical and martial components of Wu-style Tai Chi. As a meditation practice Tai Chi has been incredibly helpful in cultivating concentration, focus and drive in all aspects of my life.

As a History graduate, I have spent much of the last 8 years writing about and campaigning for the environment, social justice and public space. I am currently studying Software Engineering and App Development.
